Bob McIntosh

Over on Cartoon Brew, Amid Amidi had noted the passing of animation background painter Bob McIntosh yesterday.

Among his numerous credits in a long career is the Chuck Jones film ‘The Phantom Tollbooth’, which was adapted from a novel by Norton Juster and designed by Maurice Noble & released in 1970.

Last year I collected a bunch of screen caps from an old VHS copy of ‘Tollbooth’ and created a Flickr set of them HERE. At the time, I simply found the layouts of this film and the composition in general pretty arresting. The quality of the captures unfortunately isn’t very good, but you’ll get the idea.

If anyone happens to spot some of Mr. McIntosh’s work in there, please make a note in the Flickr comments.
